Listen to the rousing lead song from this album of 27 hymns and songs, Angels from the Realms of Glory. (Begins solo, each verse adding more voices, ending with a women’s chorus “Angels rejoicing”)

David Goettee, singer/producer/entrepreneur/business manager of his independent record label (TortoiseClimbing Audio™), announces “Hymns and Songs of My Mother,” now available. This collection artfully brings together 26 old, cherished hymns and songs of our parents and grandparents, plus 1 original folk influenced Contemporary Christian song. It narrates an overarching story, beginning with Christ’s birth, and ending with hymns and songs contemplating death.

The rousing “Angels from the Realms of Glory,” sets the tone of positive support that carries us through life. The hymns and songs include numerous collaborations with professional vocalists and musicians. Many varied accompaniments are used, including: acoustic guitar, real pipe organ, chamber orchestra, grand piano, harpsichord, hand bells, Celtic Harp and shuttle pipe.

This was a trip into childhood rememberences for both David and his initial producer, Ms. Heidi Gerber-Salins. (These old hymns and songs were sung in the churches they grew up in.) In a sense, this is a requiem, both for the memories of his mother, who requested this album, and together with David selected the hymns to include, and for both David and Heidi’s childhood rememberences.

The original folk style Contemporary Christian song, “Welcome Home,” was written by a relative (Ms. Kathy Brigman Haupt) for the funeral of her beloved grandmother, the sister to David’s mother. David produced an arrangement, with acoustic instruments and women’s chorus refrains (the Angels welcoming you to heaven). It is a truly uplifting song that all who worked on it enjoyed.

David ensured performances of each hymn and song have a personal touch of artistic interpretation, and are faithfully recorded in audiophile clarity. (See the annotated playlist).

David is focused on recording and releasing a series of great sounding nostalgic oldies (in collaboration with others), and building his record label into a business. (This includes work on both artistic and administrative sides to make his label successful.)

A sweep of experiences influenced David’s musical life. Beginning with Elementary School choirs, to High School chorus where David sang the part of Jesus, to college choir performing at Casals Festival and Carnegie Hall, to Univ. of MD solo basketball patriotic exercises, to Takoma Park, MD July 4 solo patriotic exercises, to then Redskins football men’s chorus, to now recording nostalgic music, secular and religious.

Those experiences shaped David’s style, making him at home recording nostalgic, sentimental favorites.

For a quiet, introspective, slightly more modern piece of emotional nostalgia, listen to a harmony version of  And So It Goes.

David's forthcoming EP release, targeted for fall 2026, is Chattanooga Choo Choo. This EP begins a series of EPs of old nostalgic songs capturing the warmth of long ago.
